Why is it so hard to find anyone to service a boiler in New Carrollton?
Because there is not much of it here. This city was built during the forced air era, so most technicians in the local market spend their careers on furnaces, heat pumps and duct systems and never build hydronic experience. That is a real problem if you own one of the exceptions. We keep the capability because the older cities we serve, Hyattsville, Cheverly, Bladensburg and Brentwood, still have plenty of these systems.
Our apartment building boiler leaves the top floor cold. Is it undersized?
Usually not. In a shared loop, cold at the top is almost always air, because air collects at the high points and blocks flow through the radiation there. The fix is proper air elimination and a purge, plus confirming system pressure is high enough to lift water to the top floor. A weak circulator produces the same complaint. Boiler size is the last thing we check.
Should our condominium replace the central boiler or go to individual systems?
That is a governance decision as much as a mechanical one, and both paths are real.
