Common questions.
One radiator stays cold while the rest of the house heats. Is the boiler failing?
Almost certainly not. A single cold radiator is a distribution problem: trapped air at a high point, a stuck valve at that radiator, or a zone valve that is not opening. Bleeding it is worth trying first. If it comes back cold, the fault is upstream and worth tracing properly, because repeatedly bleeding a system that keeps taking on air is treating a symptom of a leak or a failed expansion tank.
Water drips from a valve on the boiler whenever it heats up. Is that dangerous?
It is the relief valve doing its job, and it means system pressure is climbing too high as the water expands. The usual cause is a waterlogged expansion tank with no air charge left, sometimes a failed fill valve feeding the system continuously. Do not cap or plug the valve under any circumstances. It is the safety device, and the fix is the tank or the fill valve.
My house has radiators and no ducts. Can I still get central air conditioning?
Yes, and it is one of the more common projects we take on in houses like these. The two practical routes are a high-velocity system, which threads small flexible tubing through existing wall and ceiling cavities, and ductless heads placed room by room.
