How the appointment runs.

On a newer or rebuilt house it takes longer, because there is more to check. We verify that the thermostat and zone panel are actually calling, confirm each damper is moving, then look at the furnace itself.

Common questions.
My house has two furnaces. Do they both need replacing at once?
Not necessarily. They are usually the same age, but rarely in the same condition, because the upstairs system often runs many more hours than the basement one. We test each system separately and tell you which one is actually at end of life. Replacing both at once can save on labor, but that is a budget decision, not a technical requirement.
The upstairs is cold even though the furnace runs constantly.
In the older Bethesda colonials this is almost always duct, not furnace. The chases are small, the second floor branches are undersized, and the furnace cannot push enough air upstairs to satisfy that thermostat. A bigger furnace makes it worse, because static pressure goes up. We measure static pressure and airflow first, so you know whether the furnace is the problem at all.
Is a heat pump a better long term choice than a gas furnace?
For many Bethesda houses, yes, particularly if you are replacing the air conditioning anyway.
