My system is R-410A. Is that being phased out like R-22 was?
New residential equipment moved to lower global warming potential refrigerants such as R-454B, so R-410A is no longer what gets installed in a new system. That is not the same situation R-22 created. R-410A is still produced and still serviced, and an R-410A system in good condition is worth repairing on its merits. The practical effect is on replacement rather than repair: a new outdoor unit uses the new refrigerant, which is part of why matching indoor and outdoor equipment matters more than it used to.
