There is a water stain on my ceiling under the attic unit. Is that the AC?
Almost certainly. An attic air handler produces condensate, and when the primary drain plugs, water backs up into the pan and finds its way through the ceiling. If a secondary pan or float switch was installed and is working, the system shuts off instead. Clearing the drain is straightforward, but the pan, trap and coil need checking so it does not repeat.
Do the trees around my condenser actually affect cooling performance?
Shade over the unit is generally good. Debris in it is not. Oak pollen, seed pods and leaves mat into the coil fins and cut the airflow it needs to reject heat, which raises head pressure and eventually causes a high pressure lockout. We clean the coil as part of diagnosis and check clearance around the cabinet, which is often too tight here.
My AC cools quickly but the house still feels clammy. Why?
